Invisalign® Q & A

What is Invisalign® ?

Invisalign® is an alternative to braces. This convenient treatment uses custom-made, clear aligners to straighten your teeth and improve malocclusions (bite problems). Unlike braces, which contain metal and bond to your teeth, clear aligners are transparent and removable.

The Iliff Family Dental team uses digital impressions to mold your aligners to the exact shape of your teeth. When you wear them, Invisalign® clear aligners blend in with the rest of your smile.

What can Invisalign®  fix?

Invisalign® can address nearly every orthodontic concern that braces treat, including:

  • Malaligned teeth (crooked teeth)
  • Crowded teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

During your initial visit, the team performs a complete dental exam and takes digital X-rays to determine whether Invisalign® is right for you.

What are the benefits of Invisalign® ?

Invisalign® is a safe, effective orthodontic treatment that can dramatically enhance your smile. The most popular benefits of Invisalign® include:

Aesthetics

Clear aligners are practically invisible, so others can’t tell you’re wearing them like they do with traditional braces.

Comfort

While traditional braces have metal brackets that rub against the inside of your cheeks, Invisalign® clear aligners are smooth and more comfortable.

Convenience

Since Invisalign® is removable, you can take your aligners out to eat and drink. You may also remove them for special events.

Oral hygiene

Braces include brackets and wires that can interfere with brushing and flossing, increasing your risk of tooth decay and discoloration. Because Invisalign® is removable, you can clean your teeth as you normally do.

What can I expect from Invisalign® ?

The Invisalign® process is almost completely digital for your comfort and convenience. After an initial dental exam, which includes digital X-rays, the team uses the iTero® intraoral scanner to take digital impressions of your teeth. Next, they upload these impressions to design your custom treatment plan.

Invisalign® creates your custom-made aligners at an outside lab. Every two weeks, you receive a new set of clear aligners. To ensure your treatment works as planned, you must wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. Ideally, you should only remove Invisalign to eat, drink, and clean your teeth.

Many patients see noticeable improvements in their teeth and malocclusions within just six to 18 months of Invisalign treatment.
